Yes, i think the same, always when i am listen to englishspeaking people, i can´t follow them long, because they speak very fast if they are good and i don´t understand the most of the words because their unclear pronunsiation. I think i need an englishspeaking friend here, that would be useful, but the trouble is that there is nobody i know how speaks english. All my colleagues in work don´t speak english, nobody here is able to speak english, it´s a great pity... :roll:

There is a big reason WHY English is worldlanguage. It's because English is spoken in America, well, more correctly, it's because of the U.S.A. The U.S.A. is important for the economy and industry all over the world, so you cant earn money if u cant speak English, which is spoken in the country with the good industry. Understood? Good. As long, as America is and stays so influent for the whole world, there will not be a change of the language.
Example: Why using a language in a TV spot, if those, who understand it, are too poor to buy the produkt, are too few to get maxed profit and are not interested in things which costs a lot of money. Regailing the history of English (influenced by everything and everybody who crossed the borders or tried to settle down on that pretty, occasionally rainy and gosh so cold, island) I think American English has derived from its roots (British). I never heard an Englishmen saying "I am good." (Normally u would say "I am fine" or "well doing"...) but in the USA everybody keep saying "I am good". Lack of grammar in the American mothertongue? Hah ... As I was in London, I met many unknown people and in our regular pub there were three or four men sitting there and watching soccer on TV very day. And after some days we talked together and I don't know why so many people says that the english people don't like german. We watch the semi final together and we are still friends. *g*

As a matter of fact I despise the way how the English language subtly changes our very own culture. Worse: Our delightful mother tongue German is being mixed more and more with English words. Quite a lot of adolescents seem to think it's cool or a unique thing to speak a pathetic mix of German and English while utterly failing to speak each language properly.

Furthermore I need to express my misanthropic and sociopathic thoughts, so my motivation to post in this thread's not a bit less legit than yours.

You mean the german slang? But we have mass words from lathin... in our Language are more words from other countries as we know. The word Haus for example or the word Poster. There are many words, which we hold for german words, but they arent.

And to answer your first sentences. I know what i can and what i not can. And i speak enough in english as you think. My Job in the gas station for example. There are very much English soldiers.
And my second job as Pro-Gamer (if i can call it a job), when i speak with other Pro Gamers from korea or America, Norway or France. We all talk in English well enough. But nobody is perfect and this is only a Fun-Thread you know? The word fun means to do something, that bring us happy feelings. Thats the meaning of fun. :wink:

In Theory everything should have been fine, but even i the Mother was revived(but she was not Human... I dont want to explain this ~.~)
They had to pay a price for nothing... Ed lost his left leg, and Al lost his entire body...
So that he doesnt lose Al, Ed binds his Soul to an Armor inside the Room, but for this he had to sacrifice his right Arm...

Now he has Automail(mechanic ) as an Arm an Leg...
And theyre going on a journey to find the Philosophers Stone, so that they can regain their former bodies...

Thats not everything, but thats the main Idea...

Maybe, but they won't do it. At my school we have an exchange with an American school and none is speaking German there. They just see it as a chance to travell or having no school for two weeks and nothing more.

I think if you live abroad, you get better and better very fast until you are almost perfect, i know someone who did this, when you speak all the days english with british people and no one is able to talk with you in german, you will fast learn to handle this language, okay, only if you have someone who speaks with you *g*.
Perhaps i will go on a language tour sometime, but i don´t want to go by aeroplane, is there an opportunity to go by ship? :roll:

if you live abroad for some time you may learn English for your everydaylife but you'll never be as good as a native speaker. As soon as you need some spesivic(I hope you know what this should mean. I really don't know how to write spezifisch in English, I'm shure even my Gearman spelling is wrong) words you often have to paraphrase it. So your style might be really bad some times even if learn to speak a language for many years in a froeighn country.

I'm not very good either, but I have to speak every day english at work. The president and prokurist of my company can only speak english and japanese (native language). The prokurist is learning german right now. It's hard to understand him, because he is not good at english either and mixes it up with some german and some english words.
It happen's very often that I don't know what he wants from me.

My best friend came from Canada. The time she came noone in my class could speak english (that was in 5th class of "Hauptschule"). So she didn't understand us and we had problems to understand her. But she learned german very fast. But if you don't speak or read the foreign language regularly you will forget it again (she lives since 2 years in Canada again and is getting from time to time worse).

My Grandpa also learned english because there was nobody in Australia with whom he could have spoken german (except the family and friends, who went with him there). They all were forced to speak english.
Now he has forgot very much. My mother forgot everything (she was only around 3 years old, I think when they went back to Germany).

I'm bad with english grammatic. I think that is because I think in the german way. That's also what my boss told me.
Reading and writing is very much easier to understand than hearing and speaking.

Now I've written enough. I'm at work right now.

I don't know the real topic of this thread. It started with the question how good you are in usage of english.

I think it was made so that we can get better in the usage of english. But I'm not sure about that. I just saw the thread and thought it could be of help to improve my very much needed english.

I have no idea, what I should write about but I want to improve my english.

I wrote in my first post already about my problem to understand my japanese direct boss.
With the japanese president it is not that difficult, because he tries to use easy words when he talks to me.

I just had an idea. I will write about my holiday plans. :teufelch:

I want to fly to Canada on the Christmas Holidays this year. I haven't seen by best friend for two years. Now that I have a job I have enough money to pay the flight. I've reservated it already but I have to wait till August to get knowlege if I get permission from my boss for holidays.

I hope that I get the permission. That are the last school holidays my friend has. When I visit her later, she might not have enough time to show me around in Cambridge and Toronto.
When I'm there I have to speak english with her mother and friends, because they can't speak german. The only possibility to speak german will be with my friend and her little sister. I will do that so that the two don't forget german :wink:

When the ordercards were in the Animania this year, I didn't have a job. Because of that I couldn't offer the money to buy them.

The first Convention that I will visit is the Hon-Con in Aschaffenburg in November. I already offered the organisators my help and I was gladly welcomed by them. Informations of the Hon-Con can be found at the link in my signature.

I also want to go to the book fair in Frankfurt (Oktober). Was anyone there in the past? How was it? What is there to see besides the Cosplayers?

I visited the book fair in Leipzig this year and it was very interesting. The weekend before I visited the Cebit and two big fairs during 10 days are very hard. I didn't had a sense in my legs the next three days. *g*

How many years the Hon-Con exists? I study in Mannheim during 1998 and 2001 and I didn't hear anything about this.

This year the Hon-Con is held for the first time. The bookstore I often visit is organizing it (H.L. Schlapp).
Last year there were Christina Plaka and Robert Labs in the bookstore and gave signatures (the Banzai and Daisuki Tour).
I think because of the response they got at that time, they got the idea of making an own Convention.

I'm really looking forward to it. On the flyer I got at the shop was written that there will be a special guest. Maybe it's those both again - or they got someone else to visit.

I hope that they will do it next year again. Maybe with even more people and a bigger hall (there is one on the other side of the Main). I don't know how big the Jukuz is, but there aren't many places where you can park for free. And on Saturday morning is market so there will be even less free places then usual. If it's already Christmas Market, then there are as good as no free parking lots.

Guess you guys won't agree, but I really like the accent of the texans. The sort of 'cowboylike' sound of it is somehow cool. - Another pretty stylish slang is the scottish. It simply rocks. :top: ('Shrek' for example ain't half as cool in german tha in english 'cause in the german dub he lacks the accent, 'n what would good ol' 'Scotty' from the Enterprise be without his awesome wannabe-scottish accent ^^) And, O.k.: I admit. Sometimes even the common english accent can be cool in the right time and place, as f.e. in historical movies about the middle ages a.s.o.
